What is a Prayer Labyrinth?
It is a type of a prayer walk based upon an ancient symbol of "pilgrimage." It is a time of prayer when you intentionally seek to "break down walls" that you and the world have built between you and God. you eventually arrive at the center claiming the promises of scripture and symbolically embracing the presence of Christ. You then exit, reminded to live life more deliberately and obediently. Psalm 84:5-10
ENTERING THE LABYRINTH 1. Discipline your mind to leave behind the world, it's worries, distractions and noise. Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 37:7 "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways when they carry out their wicked schemes. Matthew 6:25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear, is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?" 2. Seek to put God at the center of your life. Psalm 139:23-24 "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me." 3. Ask God to make His thoughts your thoughts. Submit yourself to Him rather than just asking Him to provide your requests. James 4:108 "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you." Psalm 51:10 "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." 4. Thank God for His grace, His cleansing, His forgiveness, His desire for us to be united with Him. Celebrate His presence! 1 Corinthians 6:11 "But your were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." 1 Thesselonians 3:13 "May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all His holy ones." Hebrews 8;10 "I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people." Phillipians 2:1-2 "If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion..." 5. Ask God to help you remain faithful to the words He has shared with you regarding your thoughts and actions. Phillipians 2:2-4 "...then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility and consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." Hebrews 10:23 "Lets us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful..." 6. Identify others with whom you want to share this experience. Help others to learn the importance of putting God in the center of their lives. Hebrews 10:24-25 "...And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." 7. Commit to live in God's presence every day, all day, not just on a prayer walk. Micah 6:8 "He has showed you, O man, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
